Moreton Bay Waterways and Catchments Partnership and the National Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality

The Moreton Bay Partnership has been formed by combining the Brisbane River Management Group and the SEQ Regional Water Quality Management Strategy group.  Its operational arms are Implementation and Development Groups, with that for the WESROC area being the Western Catchments Group, made up of representatives from local Councils, business groups, environmentalists, indigenous peoples and catchment associations.  This Group is responsible for the implementation of parts of the Water Quality Strategy and the Healthy Waterways Plan in the area, and for their development in the light of new issues.

The WESROC area is also the core of part of a Priority Investment Area for the National Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality, a joint Commonwealth-State initiative to address these problems.  The Western Catchments Group is the peak body for the community management of the Plan in this area.

WESROC is closely involved in the development of both initiatives, with its members all being on the Western Catchments Group and its Nonurban Consultative Committee providing technical support.

Information on the Moreton Bay Partnership can be obtained from the Secretariat, on the National Action Plan from the Department of Natural Resources and Mines, and on the local situation by contacting the project officer based at Ipswich.
